Meditation

"What's fascinating about meditation is its essence of dedicating daily moments to simply being without any sense of guilt attached. It's common to feel remorseful for taking personal time or embracing moments of stillness, yet through meditation, not only do you nurture yourself and enhance your life, but you also radiate positivity to those around you, enriching their lives in the process."

What is Meditation?

Meditation impacts the gray matter in the brain, a crucial component responsible for processing information, coordinating movement, and managing emotions.

Research employing magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrates that meditation can enhance gray matter volume in specific brain regions such as the hippocampus (linked to memory and learning), the prefrontal cortex (associated with decision-making and executive function), and the insula (involved in self-awareness and empathy).

Moreover, regular meditation practice has been found to decrease gray matter concentration in the amygdala, a region linked to fear, anxiety, and stress—resulting in reduced stress levels.

Studies also indicate that meditation can induce changes in the thickness of the cortex, comprising gray matter, particularly in areas related to attention, sensory processing, and emotional regulation.

Furthermore, long-term meditation practice correlates with heightened activity in brain regions involved in executive control, attention, and emotional regulation.

Overall, scientific findings suggest that meditation positively influences gray matter in the brain, leading to enhancements in cognitive, emotional, and physical well-being.

Benefits Include:

  • Increases the mind, body, and spirit connection

  • Less reactivity

  • Improved overall physical, mental, and emotional health

  • Decreased Stress

  • Helps to alleviate anxiety and stress

  • Helps to manage pain

  • Improved sleep

  • Overall calming effect

  • Better breath quality

  • Increase in brain power

  • Enhanced focus and concentration

  • Balanced mental and emotional health

The key takeaway about meditation is that it's neither inherently good nor bad, nor is it about being right or wrong. The crucial aspect is committing to the practice and carving out time for yourself without judgment.

It's also essential to grasp that meditation doesn't mean emptying your mind of thoughts entirely. Instead, it's about observing your thoughts and then letting them pass without clinging to them. It's about assuming the role of an observer or witness to your thoughts.

I like to liken it to raindrops on a car windshield treated with Rain-X. The rain represents your thoughts; they hit the windshield, symbolizing your mind, and then effortlessly slide away. You acknowledge them, recognize their presence, and then release them without passing judgment. Meditation is about observing your thoughts impartially and allowing them to dissipate.

I've personally grappled with establishing and maintaining a consistent daily meditation routine for years. Through introspection and perseverance, I realized that much of my struggle stemmed from unresolved trauma. Consequently, I specialize in being attuned and empathetic to the experiences of others navigating their own traumatic journeys.

During sessions, I prioritize creating a safe and nurturing environment where each client feels supported and respected. Before guiding individuals through meditation or sound healing practices, I meticulously plan each session tailored to their needs.

It's important to understand that while you're always encouraged to open up to me, you're never obligated to share anything you're not comfortable with. Effective support and care can be provided without delving into specific details of your situation.

What is it like to work with me?

I am offering a few different opportunities to work with me to help you create a practice that fits your needs. Each offering is completely customized to the individual or group. Meditation can include some sound healing, such as with the inclusion of one or more singing bowls or not, depending on personal preference.

While I do not conduct Reiki sessions in a traditional hands-on or auric field way, Reiki and healing energy can be infused into meditation sessions if the client is interested, however, if Reiki is something you do not feel comfortable with, it doesn’t have to be used at all.

  • In-person, One-on-One Sessions

  • Virtual One-on-One Sessions

  • Group Meditation Sessions (virtual and in-person)

One-on-One

One-on-One sessions are completely personalized to your individual needs. I can teach you to meditate through a series of sessions. I can create video-recorded meditation sessions for you to use on your own. Together we can develop a plan to facilitate healing in whatever way feels right and “doable” for you.

If you are local and want to work together in person or a combination of in-person and virtual sessions, I’m here to support you. These sessions are for and all about you!

Sound therapy is available in the one-on-one sessions as a sound bath or incorporated into a meditation session.

Group Sessions

Do you have a group that you feel would benefit from a group healing session? Run a business and want to bring meditation practice to your staff? I conduct one-off and series of sessions of group meditation and mindfulness practices where you can choose a specific focus, take the time to learn more about mindfulness and how to incorporate meditation into your daily life, or simply teach one or more styles of meditation to participants.
